Our Home: The Historic Clark Chateau
The Chateau was built in 1899 by Copper King William Clark as a wedding gift to his oldest son, Charles, and his bride Katherine. Throughout the 20th century, the Chateau was home to several influential Butte families, and was host to many a party, wedding and scandal. It was purchased by the Butte Bicentennial Committe in 1976 and was used for many years as an arts center. In 2013, management of the building was transferred to the Butte Silver Bow Archives, who put out a call for proposals for use of the building. Carson Grace Becker submitted the winning proposal to transform the building into a haven for the humanities,
and The Root & The Bloom was born.
